If you’re considering getting a pet, it’s important to think about how the pet will fit in with your lifestyle and living arrangements. Before bringing a pet into your rental property, please take the time to consider the following:
- Legal requirements – Ensure you meet all relevant council regulations, including microchipping, registration, and any required licences.
- Care requirements – Understand the time, attention, and resources your pet will need to live a happy and healthy life.
- Long-term responsibilities – Be prepared for the ongoing costs and commitments involved in responsible pet ownership.

You should also consider whether your rental property is suitable for the type of pet you wish to keep.
If your property is part of a strata scheme, additional by-laws may apply. It’s essential to review these by-laws before submitting a pet request. For more information, visit the NSW Government – Pets in Strata Living page.
